From January to September, China imported 237,000 m³ from its most important supplier Germany, as figures published by China Customs Statistics show. In 2024, 264,000 m³ were imported. In the Datacube, you can see that the first nine months of 2023 were the only period since 2017 that an even smaller volume of beech logs was imported from Germany, to be precise 217,500 m³. According to Destatis, Germany’s beech log exports to China amounted to 195,000 m³ in the first eight months.
In the first nine months, China purchased 92,000 m³ (-20%) of beech logs from France. Deliveries from Belgium decreased, too (38,000 m³, -9%). Meanwhile, imports from Slovakia more than doubled, from 25,000 m³ last year to 61,000 m³ this year (+147%). Bigger volumes were also purchased from Denmark (45,500 m³, +5%).
