More beech log wood to Austria

Article by Philipp Matzku (translated by Eva Guzely) | 23.09.2025 - 11:29

From January to July, beech log exports amounted to 497,000 m³. This corresponds to a 17% decrease compared to the same period last year (2024: 425,700 m³). Despite having reduced its purchases by 11%, China remains Germany’s most important customer with a trade volume of 193,600 m³.

Exports to Austria (130,300 m³; +11%) and Belgium (37,100 m³; +8,456%) primarily involved industrial log wood. While Belgium imported only 434 cubic meters of beech logs in the first seven months of 2024, it purchased 21,600 m³ in 2023. In the previous ten years, German exports to Belgium fluctuated between 8,095 m³ (2015) and 11,771 m³ (2021), as you can see in the Datacube.

Deliveries to Denmark grew strongly, totaling 45,700 m³ (+54%), as did those to Sweden (36,700 m³; +58%). Both countries thus increased their imports by half compared to last year.
