Direct comparisons of the prices in euros per cubic meter valid in the individual countries is difficult because measurement, grading and delivery methods vary from country to country. However, if one takes only the percentage changes since January 2020 into account, the price trends can be clearly illustrated.
The biggest relative increase in prices for spruce sawlogs can be observed in Sweden: There, prices were recently 134 percentage points higher than in January 2020, and have thus more than doubled since then.
In Norway, too, prices nearly doubled (+95 percentage points until mid-2025). Lately, however, a clear downward trend was evident there. As a result, the price level fell back to growth rates of around 70 percentage points, approaching the price level in southern Germany and Austria.
Prices in Finland were showed the least dynamic development of the analyzed countries. Prices there rose by around 50 percentage points until mid-2025, and were still at +32 percentage points in April 2026. However, reduced logging volumes and persistently robust demand also indicate further potential for price increases in Finland.
