In the first half-year, Austria received 42% of all German softwood log exports. According to Destatis, 1.1 million m³ were delivered to the number-one buyer, and a decrease of 11%, from 1.3 million in the first half of 2024, was recorded. Statistik Austria reports a slightly different figure, i.e. 1.14 million m³ of softwood logs imported from Germany in the months from January to May 2025.

While German exports to Belgium grew by 7% to 382,000 m³, those to the Czech Republic were down by 25%, totaling only 311,500 m³. Shipments to China plummeted by 58%, from 622,900 m³ in the first six months of 2024 to 262,700 m³ this year. According to China Customs Statistics, China imported 251,000 m³ of German softwood logs in the first half of this year, following 611,800 m³ in the same period of 2024.

A six-figure volume was also exported to Luxembourg (133,000 m³; +70%).

At 1.1 to 1.5 million m³, respectively, German softwood log exports were below current levels in the first half of 2009 and 2018, as you can see in the Datacube. They peaked at 5.5 million cubic meters in the first six months of 2021, while only 1.1 million m³ were exported in the same period of 2013.
