In the second quarter, 1 million t of wood pellets were produced in Germany. According to the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), this corresponds to a year-on-year increase of 54,000 t or 5.6% (Q2 2024: 949,000 t). Compared to 2023 (965,000 t, production was up by 38,000 t or 3.9%.
In the second quarter, ENplus-A1 pellets accounted for 97.9% of total production, while industrial pellets accounted for 2.1%. 75.5% of the produced pellets were loose pellets; the remaining 24.5% were bagged pellets. Softwood accounted for 98.4% in pellet production. Most of the wood pellets were produced from sawmill byproducts (91.6%) and only a small part from log wood (8.4%). 85.6% of the produced pellets were sold on the domestic German market. The remaining 14.4% were exported.
