In 2023, Japanese imports of glulam and CLT totaled 558,000 m³ and thus reached the lowest level since 2009. Starting from there, a 19% increase was recorded in 2024, which brought the total to 662,000 m³. According to Datacube figures, Japan imported on average 811,000 m³ of laminated timber a year over the past decade.
Last year, Finland (277,000 m³; +15%), Romania (98,000 m³; +22%) and Austria (77,000 m³; +21%) accounted for around 70% of Japan’s total laminated timber imports. In 2024, Japan imported nearly 90% of its glulam and CLT, i.e. 587,000 m³, from the EU.
