Sharp decreases on the parquet markets

In the first half-year, all of the FEP’s member countries saw their parquet markets slump. The main reason for weaker demand is the reduced construction activity in the new constructions and renovations segments. The European Federation of the Parquet Industry does not expect a recovery of the construction industry anytime soon. As a result, an improvement of the situation for the parquet industry before the end of 2024 is seen as unlikely, too.

In Austria, parquet consumption saw a year-on-year decrease of 25% in the period January to September 2023. In the third quarter, it was down by 20% in Austria. In the Netherlands, a decrease of 25 to 30% was recorded in the first half of 2023. At -30 to -35%, parquet consumption was also much lower in France in the first six months and, for the third quarter, an even clearer downward trend is expected (-35 to -40%).

German parquet consumption fell by 38% year on year in the second quarter. Italy recorded a decrease of 23 to 25% compared to 2022. Sweden’s parquet consumption also plummeted by 36% in the first half-year. Switzerland, too, recorded a year-on-year decrease of 15% in the first six months.
