In September 2021, the Austrian sawdust price index had started to rise uninterruptedly and in October 2022, it reached an all-time high of 891%. After minor decreases in November and December 2022, the sawdust price index plummeted by 262 percentage points to 616% in January. Year on year, however, the index value is still 292 points higher at the beginning of the year.
A similar development, albeit with much smaller fluctuations, can be observed when it comes to the price index for wood chips. In January, the index value was at 338%, down by 38 percentage points month on month, but up by 171 points compared to January 2022.
