Laminated timber exports down by 10%

With the exception of Italy, Austria exported smaller volumes of glulam and CLT to all important foreign markets in 2022.

In 2022, Austrian laminated timber exports fell by nearly 10% compared to the record year of 2021 to 1.84 million m³. As a look in the Datacube shows, this was the first year-on-year decrease in glulam and CLT exports since 2009.

While exports to Italy remained stable at 688,000 m³, sales on other foreign markets, such as Germany (421,000 m³; -15%), France (161,000 m³; -8%) and Switzerland (122,000 m³; -15%), saw partly marked decreases.

115,000 m³ of glulam and CLT, i.e. 19% less than in 2021, were shipped to Japan, Austria’s most important foreign market outside of Europe. Data are collected by Statistik Austria.
