According to projections based on the first ten months of 2022, annual gross sales will total €35.3 billion and will thus remain at a high level. In the first half of 2023, the trade association furniture and kitchens (BVDM) expects demand to be stable.
In 2022, upholstered furniture was the strongest driver of growth with a 14% increase in sales compared to the previous year. In the kitchen segment, sales were up by 8%. Furniture retailers were also able to increase their sales of office furniture by 6%. In the segment garden and other home furniture, an increase of 8% was recorded.
Christian Haeser, President of the association BVDM, presented these figures as well as the financial results of the German furniture industry at an online press conference, which was held on February 22.
