The cross-laminated beam system primolam, which was developed by Weinberger Best of Holz of Reichenfels, combines the respective advantages of both cross-laminated timber as well as glulam systems and glue-laminated beams, making this innovative wall and ceiling system made in Austria an attractive alternative to log house planks and CLT. Carpentry companies, which specialize in log houses, benefit from short assembly times, a maximum of added value and many other advantages.

The success story of wood in modern house construction is driven by the trend towards sustainability on the one hand but CLT, too, plays a crucial role here. In fact, cross-laminated timber enables fast and economical construction. That is why primolam comes at just the right time for carpentry companies which specialize in traditional log houses. The cross-laminated beam system developed by Weinberger Best of Holz offers quick assembly times similar to those of CLT buildings, but a large part of the added value remains in-house. Instead of single planks or prefabricated elements, Weinberger supplies prefabricated panels with widths of 40 cm to 1.2 meters and lengths of up to 13.5 meters – on request in CE-compliant pine wood, too. The joining is done in the factory or directly on the construction site.

Contrary to CLT, primolam enables the planning and fast construction of traditional log-house-style buildings with a core of solid wood, thereby creating not only the typical log house look but also the special atmosphere associated with it.

In addition, primolam gives log house carpenters strong arguments when discussing projects with customers, for example, the short construction time and the possibility of installing bigger windows than in traditional log house construction.

Furthermore, primolam is non-settling thanks to crosswise and formaldehyde-free gluing and it is also wind-tight as a result of easy-to-implement corner connections. The high degree of prefabrication makes quality assurance easier, while reducing the sources of errors and the working hours of skilled workers on the construction site. In short, primolam is the smart alternative in modern log house construction.

Primolam à la Weinberger

  • for panel construction in the popular log house look for walls and ceilings
  • non-settling
  • smaller cross-sections due to a higher share of lengthwise timber components
  • combines the advantages of narrow-edge-glued and non-narrow-edge-glued cross-laminated timber
  • extremely high dimensional stability thanks to cross-glued timber components
  • construction of multi-story wooden buildings possible even with thin walls
  • suitable for load-bearing walls both in a vertical and horizontal position
