The Netherlands remained Germany’s number one buyer with 3.15 million pallets (+5%). All other Top 5 export markets are located in Central Europe as well. Neighbor Austria is Germany’s second most important trading partner. At 2.69 million pallets, it also recorded the biggest increase (+23%) of the main export markets. Neighboring countries Switzerland (2.45 million pieces; -8%), France (2.11 million pallets, +6%) and Belgium (2.03 million pieces; +16%) follow in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Poland received 1 million pallets (-2%) in the first six months and thus nearly the same quantity as last year.

As data published by Destatis show, a much bigger number of pallets, 14.42 million to be precise, went the other way. With a share of 38%, Poland is by far Germany’s most important supplier of pallets. In the first six months, imports from Poland saw a slight increase of 3% compared to the same period of last year.

The Czech Republic follows in second place with 6.49 million pallets (+1%) and constant deliveries. The country accounts for 17% of overall German imports. Shipments from Belarus saw the biggest decrease. Compared to 2021, they fell by 32% to only 1.94 million pieces.

In total, Germany imported 38 million pallets in the first half-year, which corresponds to a year-on-year increase of 4%.
