In March, sales generated by German timber trade companies grew by around 23%. Sales of wood-based panels saw a 35% increase, while those of floorings and garden wood were up, respectively, by 25% and 17%. According to GD Holz, this massive increase in sales is mainly driven by prices. In terms of quantities, sales are likely stable at last year’s level or slightly higher, as some merchants estimate.
When it comes to sales markets, companies report a stable to good economic situation. However, there is concern about bottlenecks in the supply of many products. In the construction sector, not only wood but many other products which are needed for new constructions are affected by those bottlenecks.
