Engineered wood producer Kronospan plans to build another production site in the Russian town of Elektrogorsk. Already in 2018, this investment was announced by Kronospan managing director David Brenner who said that the company wanted to increase the plant’s capacity and planned a collaboration with a local furniture producer.
In the past, the production site in Elektrogorsk attracted negative headlines. In 2019, environmental activists complained about the Kronospan plant draining polluted waste water with a high concentration of formaldehyde into a local river. Also, the emission of unfiltered production exhaust into the environment was criticized. Now, new protective measures are planned with the installation of additional filter system. “The next steps this year are the installation of additional filters for the chipboard drying section and the construction of new treatment plants,” Denis Semenov, head of the district, is cited on interfax-russia.ru. According to the news agency, a total of 100 million ruble (€ 1.25 million) are invested in environmental protection measures. Construction work is to start in May and be completed in December.
