Friday concluded the Ligna 2013 in Hannover. Even before the official end organizers and exhibition partners gave a first assessment which turned out very positive: Visitor numbers remained stable at 90,000 (2011: 88,000). More than 40% of them came from abroad – also a higher proportion than two years ago. Moreover, the number of visitors from North America (USA, Canada) has increased by 52% to more than 3,000. Impressive growth of visitors came also from Russia. "This shows that the Ligna has moved up into the Champions League of the world fairs", says Dr. Jochen Köckler, Member of the Board of Deutsche Messe. Dr. Bernhard Dirr, Managing Director of the German trade association for woodworking machinery VDMA, Frankfurt/DE, also gave a hint: "Hire more sales-staff for the USA. The business is really taking off there now", he said with a grin on his face.

Nevertheless, visitors found the Ligna to be structured more compact than before. The new concept convinced organizers and visitors alike: The exhibition space was reduced to 124,000 m² (2011: 130,000 m²) and a concentration of the fair on fewer halls saved visitors from having to walk very far distances at this year's Ligna. Nevertheless, all key decision makers were present, praising the quality of the visitors. A somewhat weak start on Monday was followed by three days with a much greater number of visitors.
