Housing construction starts well below 2024 level

In October 2025, Japan recorded a slight increase in housing construction starts. In November, however, they continued their downward trend.

Statistics of Japan reports 59,524 new housing construction starts for the month of November 2025. This corresponds to a year-on-year decrease of 8%.

From January to November 2025, construction started on a total of 678,549 houses in Japan. This is 7% lower than in the same period in 2024 and the lowest figure in the first eleven months since records began in 2005.
