From January to March 2025, a marked increase was recorded in the single-family home segment. According to Destatis, building permits were issued for 10,600 new housing units, that is 15.3% more than in the first quarter of 2024. A contrary trend can be observed in two-family home segment where the number of permits fell by 8.9% to 3,000. The most significant building type, i.e. multi-family homes, remained almost completely unchanged compared to the previous year, with permits issued for 28,800 units (+10 units).
In March 2025, 19,500 new apartments were permitted. Here, Destatis reports a year-on-year increase of 5.8%. 16,000 of those apartments are part of new residential buildings that are to be built (+8.9%).
