In 2020, Germany’s main construction sector saw its annual sales grow by 4.9% compared to 2019, recording an increase for the eighth consecutive year despite the coronavirus pandemic. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office Destatis based on preliminary data, all segments of the main construction sector, with the exception of the construction of roads and railway lines, saw their sales rise compared to the previous year.

The carpentry and timber engineering segment recorded the biggest increase in sales within the main construction sector, i.e. +14% compared to 2019. In December 2020, timber constructions even grew by 42% compared to the same month of 2019.
