Last year, German authorities granted almost 347,300 construction permits for new and reconstruction works on existing buildings. This means that compared to 2017, permits remained stable (-0.2%) according to preliminary data by the Federal Statistical Office.
The figures for new constructions with one residential unit also remained on the same level (90,000; -1%). Declining figures were reported for buildings with two apartments (-6% to 20,800) or dormitories (-24% to 11,400). Construction permits for buildings with three apartments and more were higher in 2018 than in the previous year: +5% to almost 181.000.
