The Austrian manufacturer of prefabricated houses Elk, Schrems, is expanding its cooperation with the Austrian DIY-chain Baumax to include the Czech Republic. As of August, the Baumax House designed by Elk will be available in the 24 Czech Baumax stores, reports the Austrian economic journal Wirtschaftsblatt.
In late May, the Austrian association for the protection of creditors KSV1870 regarded the home improvement chain as being at "high risk" and advised against starting business cooperations. Baumax is heavily indebted with around € 1 billion and is just being restructured. Elk Geschäfstführer Erich Weichselbaum told the newspaper that Elk nevertheless stands by Baumax – his longstanding partner in Austria. Baumax only lends its company name to this deal, everything else – supply, installation, invoicing – is in the hands of Elk.
In the Czech Republic, Elk expects sales figures for its prefab home in the double digits in 2015, the company said. In about a year, the Baumax House will also be available in Slovakia. In Austria, Elk says they have 100 orders for Baumax houses every year.
