The reasons given for the sawmill closure are the difficult market conditions, the ongoing shortage of raw materials and the more than twice as high costs in the past five years. These factors, combined with significant unused production capacity at the other two sites in Insjön/SE and Blyberg/SE, have led to the decision to discontinue production at the Mora site. In addition, large investments would have been necessary in the plant, one hears in the industry. A band sawmill is operated at the Mora site, which is designed to cut pine with a braid diameter of 20 cm or more.
Around 35 employees who have already been informed about the closure are affected. Last year, 180,000 cubic metres were cut in Mora and 115,000 m³ of softwood sawn timber was produced from it.
Niklas Båtelsson, Managing Director of Bergkvist Siljan: "The increased focus on Insjön and Blyberg means a long-term strengthening of the company as well as an increase in efficiency and productivity. The necessary redundancies will be carried out with great attention to the employees and in cooperation with the trade unions." At the same time, however, it is emphasized that the cuts in Insjön and Blyberg will create jobs again.
