The series of discussions hosted by the Holzkurier at the 2025 German Wood Congress painted a clear picture: Log supply remains the central issue for German softwood sawmills. Despite high stocks in forests, too little log wood is available on the market in many regions. This leads to larger purchasing areas, increased use of alternative types of wood, and ultimately, reduced cutting volumes.
