Exports with a decrease of 1 million m³

Surprisingly, the only increase in exports was recorded in North America. Softwood lumber shipments to the US grew by almost 4%, totaling 1.57 million m³, while deliveries to Canada basically skyrocketed to 203,000 m³ (+60%). Five years ago, only 5,000 m³ were exported to Canada during the same period, as a look in the Datacube reveals.

By contrast, exports to neighboring countries decreased substantially. Even in Italy, Germany was unable to capitalize on the favorable market opportunities this year: Deliveries totaled only 384,000 m³, and were thus down by 7% year on year.

The decrease in exports exceeds the production curtailments caused by the shortage of raw material.
