Under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), Canada already pays a total of 35% in countervailing and anti-dumping duties on softwood lumber.
Quoting a senior Canadian government source, cbs.ca reports that no exemptions apply to USMCA-compliant goods. Effective October 14, a 10% US tariff on softwood lumber will be added to the existing one, bringing Canada’s tariff burden on softwood lumber deliveries to the US to 45%.
