According to Statistics of Japan, imports from Sweden grew by 3% to 537,000 m³ in the first eight months of this year (2024: 522,000 m³). Deliveries from Finland and Russia increased by 13% to 521,000 m³ and 409,600 m³, respectively. Japan purchased 492,100 m³ of Canadian softwood lumber, i.e. 16% less than last year. Imports from Austria (109,200 m³; -13%) and Germany (80,100 m³; -21%) were reduced as well. Furthermore, imports from Romania decreased by 41%, from 100,000 m³ last year to 59,300 m³ in the first eight months of 2025.
Destatis reported German softwood lumber exports of 73,772 m³ (-25%) to Japan in the months from January to July. According to Statistik Austria, Austrian exports there amounted to 97,385 m³ (-10%) in the first half of the year. Statistics of Japan, on the other hand, reports imports of 75,161 m³ from Austria during the same period.
