Article by Günther Jauk (translated by Eva Guzely) | 22.05.2025 - 09:17

According to China Customs Statistics, China imported 5.07 million m³ of softwood lumber from January to April 2025. This corresponds to a 16% decrease compared to the same period last year. Purchases from main supplier Russia were reduced by 7% to 3.52 million m³. China also received smaller volumes of softwood lumber from Belarus (363,000 m³; -12%) and Canada (361,000 m³; -25%).

Sweden (172,000 m³; -25%), Finland (127,000 m³; -57%) and Germany (62,000 m³; -73%) were important European trading partners for China.

When you look at the timeline in the Datacube, which goes back to the year 2017, you can see that this year’s first four months were the weakest period.
