In the first two months of 2025, Germany exported around 71,800 m³ of beech lumber (incl. planed timber), recording a slight 2% increase compared to the same period last year (69,200 m³).
China remained the number one foreign market. After two years that started out relatively weak, Chinese buyers received 19,200 m³ this year, a volume similar to that in 2022. A marked increase was also recorded in shipments to Vietnam. The southeast Asian country received 4,800 m³ of German beech lumber, i.e. twice the volume it purchased a year ago. However, a look in the Datacube shows that there have been better years, for example the first two months of 2021 and 2019.
Exports to Belgium also doubled, from 1,100 m³ to 2,400 m³.
Decreases in beech lumber exports to the US (8,300 m³; -9%), Poland (5,700 m³; -20%) and Mexico (3,400 m³; -11%) offset the increases recorded on other markets nearly entirely.
With a trade volume of 1,400 m³ (-36%) in January and February, Austria is not in the Top 10, as figures published by Destatis show.
