Scanners for every area of application

Smarti offers scanners for the measurement and cutting optimization of logs as well as various solutions for sorting, optimized cutting and strength grading of boards. The core technology of Smarti’s scanners is a combination of specially developed AI and algorithms for machine vision. This technology enables the precise detection of various wood defects.

Optimized log cutting

Smarti developed the iLog product family to help customers achieve the best result already in primary processing. Developed specifically for the color and 3D scanning of logs, these scanners enable accurate log sorting. Colorized 3D models of the logs created in real time record all parameters and detect every defect, thereby ensuring reliable sorting and precise cutting optimization.

The iLog log scanners can also be equipped with an optional X-ray unit, which makes it possible to detect internal wood defects and further increases the log sorting quality as a result. Integrating the scanners, in existing production lines for example, can significantly improve the efficiency of wood processing.

Additional optional features

Smarti’s product portfolio also includes solutions for secondary processing. The scanners built by the Slovenian company guarantee the reliable measurement of the moisture content, surface and curvature of lumber. Here, too, machine vision and the in-house developed AI are used to further optimize cutting and sorting.

Like the iLog log scanners, the lumber scanners can also be expanded to include an X-ray unit which allows customers to take a look inside the board, giving them an even better basis for decisions about the further processing steps, and enables the strength grading of the lumber.

Comprehensive lumber assessment

Two models are available for lumber processing: the iCon and the iCross. The iCon scanners are high-performance machines that were developed for the four-sided 3D and color scanning of boards. The iCon scanners are used for the detection of wood defects on the surface – and on the inside, if an X-ray unit is installed – and the strength grading of boards. Thanks to complex AI and algorithms and a high feed speed of up to 500 m/min, the scanners guarantee optimal production yield. The iCon scanners are suitable for a wide range of processing purposes, from lumber to the finished product.

The iCross scanners offer high-quality, four-sided 3D and color scans. As with the iCon scanners, an X-ray unit can be integrated into these models as well to enable the strength grading of the wood. The iCross scanners can be used both in primary and secondary processing for sorting and cutting optimization and are characterized by their high feed speed. Up to 250 boards of different dimensions run through the iCross scanner every minute and are scanned with a deviation of less than 0.1 mm. If it is relevant for downstream processing steps, the iCross scanners can also be equipped with a front side scanner which turns the boards if necessary. The sorting rules for both the iCon and iCross scanners are either adapted to various standards or are defined individually.

Scanners for all areas of application

The Smarti scanners can be integrated into various production lines, from sawmills to furniture and flooring production facilities. Smarti’s technology helps increase productivity and optimize yield in all industries and sectors. With its machines, Smarti is a valuable provider of wood scanning solutions, who offers their customers not only state-of-the-art but also economical technological solutions.

Continuous further development

Smarti strives to develop other innovative solutions for the wood processing industry and to strengthen its position as a scanner manufacturer. Through continuous improvement in the areas of AI, machine vision and X-ray technology, the company will be able to meet customers’ needs and help them maximize the efficiency of their production processes in the future, too.

The various models offered by the Slovenian scanner experts are already used by numerous satisfied customers.
