Canfor to expand in Alabama

Canadian timber group Canfor plans to optimize its operations in the US state of Alabama and to increase its production capacity. One sawmill will be closed down, while another will be put into operation. A third sawmill will be expanded.

The aging sawmill in Jackson is to be closed permanently by the end of June. In the nearby Fulton sawmill, on the other hand, Canfor wants to increase the lumber production capacity by adding a second shift. In Axis, a new, state-of-the art greenfield sawmill will be put into operation over the course of this year.

With these steps, Canfor wants to increase its Southern Yellow Pine (SYP) production capacity in Alabama by around 160,000 m³ of 2-by-4 equivalents of lumber (100 million bft).
