Last year, Germany exported 9.66 million m³ of softwood lumber. Compared to the record years of 2021 and 2022, exports decreased by around 10%. However, a look in our Datacube all the way back to the year 2006 shows that 2023 was the third-strongest year for exports in this period.
The US were once again the most important export market with 2.46 million m³ (-12%), followed by France (788,000 m³; -4%), Austria (787,000 m³; -13%) and the Netherlands (649,000 m³; -14%).
Decreases were also recorded in softwood lumber exports to Belgium (602,000 m³; -18%) and China (590,000 m³; -22%), while shipments to Italy (567,000 m³; +6%) and India (473,000 m³; +15%) increased compared to 2022.
