Sales of the sawmill industry below last year's level

Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 16.11.2023 - 09:17

From January to September, the German sawmill industry generated €5 billion in sales. Compared to the first three quarters of 2022 (€6.9 billion), this corresponds to a decrease of 27% or just under €1.9 billion. Compared to the same period of 2021, sales have decreased by 12% or almost €700 million. It has to be said, though, that lumber prices have been well above average in the past two years. If you compare this year’s sales with those of “normal years”, a different picture emerges: In the first three quarters of 2018, 2019 and 2020, sales generated by the German sawmill industry had always been stable at around €3.7 billion.

In September, sales amounted to €518.8 million, recording an increase of 6.7% compared to August, but a decrease of 28.7% compared with September 2022.
