Further curtailment of production

The decision has been taken in light of the shortage of economically available log wood in the region. The curtailment is expected to be in place for approximately six months. The company will continue to evaluate market conditions and the availability of log wood in the region and adjust its operations accordingly, as Canfor states in a press release.

“Unfortunately, BC is amongst the highest cost operating jurisdictions in the world. With persistent weak market conditions and a shortage of cost-competitive raw material in the region, we simply cannot support both of our mills in the Prince George area through this winter. As a result, we are making the difficult decision to curtail operations at Polar to ensure continued operations at our other facilities in the region,” Stephen Mackie, Executive Vice President, North American Operations, said.

As a result of the curtailment, around 140 million bft of production (nominal: 330,000 m³, converted into 2-by-4 equivalents: 225,000 m³) will be removed over a period of six months.
