In the first half of 2023, Finland exported 4.85 million m³ of softwood lumber, recording a year-on-year decrease of around 100,000 m³. A clear downward trend can be seen in export volumes to Japan (350,000 m³; -30%) and Saudi Arabia (235,000 m³; -19%) in particular. Germany received 285,000 m³ of Finnish softwood lumber in the first half-year, i.e. around 15% less than last year.

Shipments to Finland’s most important buyers Egypt (535,000 m³) and Great Britain (445,000 m³) remained completely unchanged in the period January to June 2023, while exports to the Baltic region, to Estonia (360,000 m³; +15%) to be precise, increased.

Algeria also helped compensate for decreases on other export markets. With a trade volume of 240,000 m³, the Mahgreb state recorded the biggest relative increase (+46%) in the first half-year.
