BSW Timber to close sawmill

BSW Timber only took over the sawmill (lumber production output 50,000 m³/year) in 2014. Now, 30 employees will be affected by the closure. “Despite investments and improvements to efficiency, the Bartley sawmill is in a difficult position due to inconsistent long-term log supply and a general poor market. Having reviewed the long-term forecast, the situation is unlikely to change, and the mill will cease to become commercially viable,” Group Operations Director Mike Lomas explained, according to the online portal dailyecho.co.uk.

Binderholz had acquired BSW Timber in early 2022. “It was a once-in-a-decade opportunity,” Reinhard Binder, owner and Managing Director of Binderholz said in an exclusive interview with the Holzkurier in October 2021, explaining the reasons for the takeover. BSW Timber (cutting: 1.2 million m³ of log wood a year) operates seven sawmills in Great Britain and one in Latvia, and it also owns seven other production sites across the United Kingdom.
