US prices are slowly recovering

Article by Gerd Ebner (translated by Eva Guzely) | 02.02.2023 - 09:26

In the first week of this year, the 2-by-4 price was still at €214/m³ (actual size; free Great Lakes region). At the end of January, it reached €235/m³, but it is still around €180/m³ lower than in the same period of last year. The 2-by-4 prices in US dollar per 1,000 bft are tracked and published by Madison’s Lumber Reporter.

When one looks at the Lumber Futures traded at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, one can see there are signs of a further increase. The Futures for March are quoted at around US-$500/1,000 bft. With the current euro-dollar exchange rate, that would be a price of around €305/m³, meaning that the market would reach the ten-year average price (2013 to 2022).
