Smaller volumes of softwood lumber from abroad

Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 27.10.2022 - 09:13

According to China Customs Statistics, Chinese softwood lumber imports totaled 12.6 million m³ in the months from January to September 2022. Compared to the same period of last year, imports fell by 6%. Shipments from Russia remained stable at 8.9 million m³ (+0.7%), while those from Canada rose by 39% to 952,000 m³. China also imported more softwood lumber from Finland (562,000 m³; +5%) and Belarus (421,000 m³; +16%) until the end of September.

However, these increases are not sufficient to compensate for decreases which were recorded in imports from other countries, such as Chile (201,000 m³; -46%), Ukraine (163,000 m³; -79%) or Brazil (149,000 m³; -63%).

As always, you can find the detailed development of Chinese imports in our Datacube.
