Main customer Italy received 740,000 m³ so far this year, which is 7% more than last year. Exports to Italy account for 46% of Austria’s total exports. 330,000 m³, i.e. 8% more compared to 2021, were sold to Germany, the number two export market of the Austrian sawmill industry.

Shipments to the MENA region saw a further decrease. This is reflected in exports to Slovenia from where the Austrian softwood lumber is shipped to North Africa and the Middle East. In the first three months, exports there fell by 11% to under 100,000 m³.

The 45% increase in exports to Japan shows the good sales situation in the Asian country, which received a total of 77,000 m³.

According to Statistik Austria, Austrian softwood lumber shipments to the US fell by 15% to 43,000 m³ in the first quarter. US statistics, on the other hand, show the opposite trend, that is a 4% increase to 147,000 m³ in the first four months.
