Producer price indices keep rising

According to Destatis, the producer price index of softwood lumber reached 337.5% (base: 1976 = 100%) in May, up by 12 percentage points compared to April (325.5%) and by 99.6 percentage points compared to May 2021.

The producer price index of crude iron reached 342.9% in May, which is a new all-time high. Month on month, the index value rose by 6.3 percentage points, while an increase of 110.7 percentage points was recorded year on year.

With a value of 290.3%, fresh concrete was also at new record level in May, rising by 6.2 points compared to April and by 26.4 points compared to May 2021. As for plastics, Destatis identified a producer price index of 213.2%, which is a new all-time high, too. Month on month, it increased by 6.6 percentage points and year on year, it was up by 45.4 percentage points. Cement also reached a record value, i.e. 135%, in May. Its producer price index rose by 8.2 percentage points compared to April and by 21.8 percentage points compared to May 2021.
