The US have been the number one market for German sawmills since 2017. The country strengthened this position with a further year-on-year increase of 5% to 830,000 m³ in the period January to April.
Austria, on the other hand, only received 297,000 m³, which is 21% less than last year, and now ranks third behind France (310,000 m³; -8%).
All other European countries, i.e. Belgium (-14%), the Netherlands (-22%), Italy (-8%) and Great Britain (-32%), also bought smaller volumes of softwood lumber from Germany.
German shipments to China remained stable at last year’s level (150,000 m³), while exports to Poland doubled this year, reaching nearly 130,000 m³. Data were collected by Destatis.
