From January to May, China imported 6.76 million m³ of softwood lumber, recording a 4% decrease compared to the same period of 2021.
According to China Customs Statistics, import volumes from Russia grew by 3%, totaling 4.43 million m³. Shipments from Canada (608,000 m³; +29%), Finland (373,000 m³; +20%) and Sweden (248,000 m³; +30%) saw even bigger increases.
With a volume of 448,000 m³, Ukraine was China’s third-biggest softwood lumber supplier last year. In the first five months of 2022, however, imports fell by 66% to only 150,000 m³.
