Softwood lumber exports on the increase

Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 03.01.2022 - 09:25

With 7.15 million m³, Finland’s softwood lumber and planed timber exports saw a 9% year-on-year increase in the period January to October 2021. This is according to data published by Finnish Customs. As a look in the Datacube shows, exports were, however, weaker in 2021 than they had been in previous years (2019: 7.6 million m³; 2018: 7.24 million m³).

While exports to Great Britain (898,000 m³; +44%) saw a marked rise in the first ten months, those to Egypt (784,000 m³; -14%), Japan (630,000 m³; -3%) and China (536,000 m³; -35%) were on the decrease. Double-digit increases, on the other hand, were recorded in softwood lumber shipments to France (490,000 m³; +46%) and Germany (487,000 m³; +20%).
