In the first eight months, Italian softwood lumber and planed timber imports totaled 2.695 million m³, which is a 22% increase year on year, according to data published by Eurostat. A look in the Datacube shows that imports from all main supplying countries have grown. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, they were at the lowest level of the past few years.

Austria remains Italy’s main supplier of softwood lumber. According to Eurostat, Italy bought around 1.42 million m³ (+22%) from Austria in the first eight months. Statistik Austria, on the other hand, reports that Austria exported 1.78 million m³ of softwood lumber to Italy in the same period.

From January to August, 305,000 m³, i. e. 15% more than last year, were imported from Germany, while shipments from the Czech Republic rose by 31% to 132,000 m³.
