The US received 400,000 m³ more so far. From January to May, over 1 million m³ of softwood lumber arrived from Germany, which is a 60% increase compared to the same period of 2020.
The US thus received twice the quantity that was exported to Germany’s number two buyer. Austria bought 463,000 m³, that is 31% more than in the first five months of last year.
The biggest increase was recorded in exports to Great Britain. With 304,000 m³, they were up by 70% year on year, as data published by Destatis show.
The most marked decrease, on the other hand, was seen in China. 172,000 m³ in five months correspond to a 60% drop compared to last year.
In May 2020, China was the number one importer of German softwood lumber with 200,000 m³, followed by the US with 95,000 m³. These detailed analyses were done with our data visualization tool Datacube.
