Slight increase in softwood sawn timber imports

In the first ten months, the US imported a total of 29.1 million m³ of softwood sawn timber. Compared to the same period of last year, imports saw a slight increase of 1.1%, as data published by the FAS show. 25.36 million m³, i.e. 2.8% less, were bought from main supplier Canada.

Marked year-on-year increases were recorded in imports from Germany (1.25 million m³; +47%), Sweden (561,500 m³; +73%), Brazil (512,000 m³; +23%) or Austria (257,000 m³; +53%). Softwood sawn timber imports from New Zealand, on the other hand, fell by 4% to 173,000 m³.
