This slight recovery is only a bit of cold comfort considering the decrease in prices in the last few weeks. According to Madison’s Lumber Reporter, the 2-by-4 price (Western SPF, KD, #2 & better) fell from 966 $ to 590 $/1000 bft. European exports currently earn only 321 €/m³. Eight weeks ago, they were able to sell their sawn timber for around 530 €/m³.
According to The Wall Street Journal, however, Lumber Futures rose by 27% and ended at 630.1 $/1000 bft on Friday. This is far from the record price reached in summer but it indicates a price level for January that is twice as high as the normal price at the beginning of a year.
