“If we compare the past weeks, we see little change. There are, however, big regional differences. On average, the Southern states continue to be affected more strongly than others,” reports DeSH managing director Lars Schmidt. “Companies planned to put more and more employees on short-time work with every week. Fortunately, this has not been the case in too many companies. However, companies look to the future with pessimism the longer the crisis lasts,” says Schmidt.

“Volatile sawn timber sales are still causing the biggest uncertainty among companies. In the past weeks, the byproduct segment has gained considerable importance. For nearly 90% of interviewees, this segment represents a negative repercussion of the corona crisis. When it comes to payment terms, there are also signs of an increasingly negative trend,” explains Schmidt.
