Europe’s second-biggest flow of softwood sawn timber was that from Sweden to Great Britain with 2.5 million m³ (-3%), followed by exports from Belgium to France with 1.3 million m³ (+34%).
On a global level, the biggest volume of softwood sawn timber, i.e. 30.7 million m³, was exported from Canada to the US (-4%). Russia and Canada sold 19.3 million m³ (+11%) and 4.6 million m³ (-11%), respectively, to China.
The increases in Finnish and Swedish exports to Egypt are remarkable. Finland saw its volumes rise by 19% to 1.5 million m³ and Sweden recorded a 52% increase to 1.4 million m³. Shipments from Germany to the US also grew considerably by one quarter to 1.2 million m³.
Czech exports to Austria (1.1 million m³; +13%) should mainly come from branches of Austrian companies.
