British Columbian exports declined 25%

Lumber exports declined 11% until the end of August compared to the previous year. The total decline of export sales in the province of British Columbia amounted to CAD 3.4 bn. (-25%) in the first eight months compared to 2018, according to Statistics Canada. The timber industry's share in this development was -5.3%.  More than 3000 sawmill industry employees have at least temporarily lost their jobs during this year.

The Economic Affairs Council has adjusted the economic growth rate for the upcoming year downwards from 2.2% to 1.8%.
