Profits of North American sawmills most recently showed a significant slump. Canadian province British-Columbia saw the lowest value in 15 years in the Q2, Wood Resource Quarterly reports.

Even though roundwood costs dropped in the most important regions worldwide in the H1 of 2019, sawn timber prices showed even greater declines. This primarily affected sawmill industries in British-Columbia, southern USA as well as eastern Russia.

Increases, on the other hand, have been observed for the profit margins (US-$) of sawmills in Finland and Scandinavia. Between the Q2 of 2017 and the Q2 of 2019, Finnish margins gained 4% and Swedish ones 11%.

The profits of Austrian sawyers also rose considerably in the previous and current years, as numerous Timber-Online.net reports prove. According to WRQ, the domestic sector made its highest profits in over ten years in the Q2.
