2-by-4 prices soared by 17 US-$ to 432 US-$/1000 bft (free Great Lakes region), reaching the highest level since the beginning of October 2018 and at the same time the sixth consecutive week of growth.
The current increase in prices is partly due to concerns by American buyers regarding supply. After all, their suppliers, i.e. the sawmills in the west of Canada, are struggling with an increasingly difficult situation when it comes to raw material. Beetle calamities, forest fires and more restrictive requirements hamper the log wood supply. Also, the current extreme temperatures have repercussions for the North American railway transport, possibly leading to major disruptions.
With a stable dollar-euro exchange rate, European suppliers make 244 €/m³ (free Great Lakes region) at the moment. 2-by-4 has thus gained almost 9 €/m³ compared to the previous week, but lost 64 €/m³ compared to the same week of 2018.
